Real estate data company Altos Research today announced an Internet application that allows users to query the company's database to quickly generate customized real estate reports.
There is a free version of the AltosXplorer application featuring limited real estate data, and a full version with richer data is available with a subscription.
Most of the company's clients are real estate agents, and the new tool enables them to creating on-the-fly reports for clients while they are talking to them on the phone, said Michael Simonsen, co-founder and CEO of Altos Research.
The application, he said, "puts a front-end on our database, so it's not about the analysis we're doing -- it's about empowering the user to do their own analysis."
While the company has previously offered detailed market-specific reports, the new tool can be used to conduct simultaneous data queries for multiple market areas. For example, a user could check out price and inventory trends in the condo market across several market areas to gauge the best market to buy in.
In addition to real estate agents and brokers, real estate appraisers and professional investors could also find value in the tool, Simonsen said.
Subscription pricing can vary based on market coverage and statistical depth, the company reports, and starts at $99 per month.
The company gathers data for about 10,000 ZIP codes across the country in 60 metro areas and 28 states. Altos captures for-sale property data from a variety of public sources, and Simonsen said the company typically has data for more than 90 percent of the for-sale properties in the markets it covers.
