I am the COO of the second largest independent real estate brokerage in Charlotte, NC metro area. I have been in this postion 13 years. I am repsonsible for all Operaitons and IT for our multi-office firm.
As another tech guy I am spending lots of time trying to move the majority of my agent base into the blogging/internet marketing world. The withdrawl from print or conventional advertising is still a hard addiction to break. As with many industries this rapid change caused by the economic downturn has put a deep divide between the tech savvy and non-tech savvy agents. My tech savvy continue to find a way to make a living even in this market while the non-tech savvy keep after relocation or "The Compnay" for not giving them leads. I see a much leaner real estate industry by the end of 2009.
Teresa, it is nice to see an agent who takes her "business" seriously. I spend quite of bit of time talking to our agents about how they plan their business. Most do not approach their business as a business but as a job and work from lead to lead and contract to contract. There is no science in how to allocate costs, time and apply limited resources like time to make them productive and profitable.
I could not agree more with the attitude of many of the realtors in our company. After years of high volume in the area combined with rapid growth in the Charlotte area our agents are faced with a new challenge. Competeing on every level for sales. It has become clear which Realtors take this "job" as a profession and have established business plans. Other agents do not show up in the office, do not work their sphere or past clients, and have a bad attitude. That behavior is a negative for their business and those around them.
