  • I think it was Patch Adams
    By SCOTT EINBINDERAugust 21, 2008 - 10:09am

I think it was Patch Adams that showed you can merge humor and medicine without compromising quality. In fact you can improve it. Humor is a tough thing to teach, if not impossible, but leaderhsip can show their agents how to "lighten up" a little. Although we are in a serious business that involves thousands of dollars and countless hours, I have found humor is a humanizer. I once attended a closing where the seller, buyer, both agents, and both attorneys hated each other the entire transaction. All showed up never thinking it would close and all threatened litigation. The loan officer walked in with a set of knives and handed it to each person and said "lets settle it the old fashion way" The room cracked up, the tension broke, and the deal settled in an hour. We could use a litte more humor in our business! It is certainly true that we have no lack of material....nice article Teresa! scott@scotteinbinder.com

Hey Patrick and Kristin are your married? Great dialogue between you both. I feel the essence is that the decision on who a seller should hire is a mult-dimensional decision based on the very conversation you are having. Numbers can be misleading both in volume and units. That said, it would serve your client well to educate them on what those numbers mean to you and what they feel it means to them. The open conversation that is filled with a deeper understanding of what "success" even means what the point of my article. Thanks for your participation in the discussion! I think I would hire you both!

  • Maybe one day the house will
    By SCOTT EINBINDERAugust 20, 2008 - 3:13pm

Maybe one day the house will find you? Could all this housing data migrate to a site where humans can register their wants and needs in a home, down to the smallest detail as Marc describes. Then, imagine this... before the home ever goes on the market, the house can find you and say "we are not ready to sell yet, but one day we might and would you like us to call you when we are considering it?". Imagine the Realtor who partners with this system and provides the real value to the public of a)information interpretation, b)negotiation and c)transaction management. Some might say that happens today, but not really. I get emailed hundreds of listings from agents of homes that I have no interest in. The curse of registration. It's that old way of throwing everything but the kitchen sink at me and maybe I will like something. How clever. How innovative. Oh and let's not forget the financing. Searching for homes without knowing if one can qualify or afford it. Those monthly payment calculators just don't do it for me! Do Realtors have a fiduciary obligation to the seller to show homes to people who qualify for them? I feel it is not just a fiduciary obligation but an ethical one as well. Will the days ever end of a buyer who searches, offers, negotiates and hires the mover to find out days before closing their loan the commitment had a condition that was not cleared and the deal is now dead? Let's bring search to a truly new level! And Marc, one more thing...YOU ARE LOVED!
