Forrester Groundswell Submission, please review
Posted in Real Estate Marketing 2.0 By G Dewald | Union Street Media, Friday, September 12, 2008.Hey everyone,
I put together a submission for the Forrester Groundswell Award this year. For those of you who haven't read Groundswell it's about using social media and other tools to move business forward. I recommend it highly (and also the author, Charlene Li, is pretty much a genius).
The submission is for my firm's one-click search feature and in particular how real estate pros can use it to highlight their knowledge and specialties.
Anyway, I would love it if any of you had time to review the submission. The award is not based on reviews or votes or anything so feel free to pan me if you need to.

There's a link below the screwey picture that leads to the full submission if you want more info on it.
Thanks for your time,
G

G--
I like the tool. This is something that we are doing with the IDX on our site. It is especially valuable in our area because many of our clients search specifically for lake front property, and are only interested in those properties.
I don't know what the criteria are for the submission, i.e-- do you need to explain industry terminology like IDX and MLS?, but I think you did a good job.

Thanks for looking at it Daniel. I'm pretty sure the Forrester folks get the IDX/MLS terminology (but to be safe I'll go back to my post and include short descriptions).
Re: client searching specifically on terms--yeah that is precisely what tools like this allow realtors to do: show what you know and help 'em find what they want.
And fairly commonly the same kind of property may go by a different type of name based on location or region, another advantage for a well-tuned realtor. For example, what we call a "camp" up here on Lake Champlain would be called a "cabin" on Detroit Lakes in Minnesota. I'm sure there are tons more regional-language clues out there as well.
SEO value is good too. I wrote the submission in sort of a hurry so I only had time to get permission to share numbers/experience on those two clients. But there are many using the system and benefiting.

This reminds me, I bought Groundswell and need to finish reading it. So far it's a great book.

@G Dewald - We're about to build something similar to this for www.hawaiilife.com. Do you sell this separately so that we could integrate it with our database?

Justin:
It's pretty tight into our whole CMS because it relates to the way we handle the data from the feed. We can't really separate it out as a component. But I bet your database guys will be able to make something pretty similar.
More than the technology it's about how the agents and realtors use it. I have some clients who just leave it in a default config and they do ok. But the ones who really use it dive into their best niches do great.
Jeff:
What more would you like to hear?
And please go ahead and leave a comment about your thoughts at the Forrester site. Even if they're negative.
Thanks everyone,
g
