The Future of Mobile Marketing for Real Estate
Posted in Technology, Tools and Tidbits By Jeff Bernheisel, Monday, September 22, 2008.
Coming soon to a cell phone near you: The ability to project images and videos via a built in micro sized pico-projector on any surface up to 100 inches.
The pico-projector (PicoP) is an ultra miniature projection module capable of producing full color, high-resolution images but small enough and low power enough to be embedded directly into an accessory pico projector that connects to mobile devices.
Imagine being able to show your Real Estate listing presentation or active listings to a client anywhere, anytime. That's some pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
Manufacturers such as Microvision are beginning to produce the tiny projectors for Motorola and Sony Ericsson. The technology should be available within a year or so.
What do you think about this technology for our industry? Will it be useful, or just another "cool" gadget to waste money on?

Mix it up with location based search tools on a smartphone and it may make for a very easy way to conduct on the spot searches with clients.

Not sure if this one will take off until until we can improve some battery life. I still cant get an entire day off one charge on my damn iPhone!

Another great idea and use for mobile technology. I've been blogging about how handheld platforms are changing our industry as seen with the Trulia iPhone app.
I agree with Anthony, still have to extend battery life!

Could be a cool toy, but not something that would change what we do in any meaningful way.
Completely agree about the battery issue.

I'd be psyched to play with it. Especially if it comes with a portable, pocket-sized projection screen. And a tripod.
Meanwhile, time is probably better spent thinking about ways to make more effective use of text messaging. Nielsen is reporting that more people are texting than using voice calling.

It looks like a great app. As everyone has noted, there is huge potential for innovative things related to smart phones. It will be interesting to hear more about features of the new Google Phone and how that device can be leveraged.

That looks very cool. I think this will have use for showing videos to clients when you are in their homes. If they are in your office it may be easier to use a computer with a high speed Internet connection. In order to use this you need to have something to project it against. I assume a folder or binder cover would work if you are in a car, but then you have to question how bright is the projection?
In short I think it has potential, but will take a while to overtake some of the smart phones.
Now what would be really cool is a way to sync two or more smart phones so individuals could watch media together without crowding.

Definitely an interesting tool to potentially add to one's arsenal of gadgets.
As technology is continually changing and updating, I think that some of our technology, especially in the early stages of the roll-out, simply helps to build more credibility to our real estate businesses whether or not the technology is 100% useful in its inception.
Our clients get an opportunity to see that we are staying on the cutting edge of technology which I believe helps to subconsciously promote that we are doing the same in all aspects of our real estate business / profession.

The thought of being able to write a power point presentation on my smart phone and also use my phone to project my presentation would make my life much more efficient. No more cables and cords and hooking this up to that. A dream come true!

Think this would be a very good tool, especially if you could project swf, mov, etc type files as well as the listings.
Battery life could be an issue - but might need a couple of extra battery packs or a method to connect into a 120v line with a step down transformer.
