Should I as a Mortgage Lender have to motivate some Real Estate agents to wake up?
Posted in Real Estate Marketing By AJ Johnson, Wednesday, July 16, 2008.I am a successful mortgage banker in Northeast Phoenix,Cave Creek and Carefree area.I have many realtor relationships that have been very succesful in the past and now.
Since things have slowed down a bit I have maintained my relationships with my core. I consider most of my agent clients as freinds. However, I do find myself trying to coach/motivate them in different ways to market,to adapt to our new market. I am not talking newbies, but seasoned agents that have had their heads in the mud. They were at one time producers.I would say average of 12 years experience. I am not saying all of my realtor freinds are in this mindset, but about 10% of them.
I know that this is a part of my job through educating at lunch and learns, emails, meetings, etc.
I want to get their heads out of the mud. The sky is not falling. Reo properties are selling in this market.
Obviousley I want them to produce because it helps my bottom line as a lender. But the freind part of me wants them to make money to support their families, etc. I know they have been struggling.
My business sense says sink or swim. My concious says try to pull them out of the mud.
They were there for me when business was good. What can I do to help them now?
What do you think?

Hey AJ,
I had the same problem when I was a Title Rep in So. California before I came an agent. It was a market just like this one. Many agents just can not adapt to new ways of doing things. Instead they blame the market for not changing the way they do business. I found in every market there are still agents doing well. Just have to change and go after different business. You actually have to work too.
Good luck. Instead of fighting it, I became an agent and got at the top of the food chain. That way I did not have to depend on others for business.
